Mass Books is a community creating accessible photobooks that challenge systems of power. It was founded by photographers Ben Brody and Peter van Agtmael, who created photobooks to reckon with the global and personal aftermath of their experiences documenting America’s post-9/11 wars.
We help realize and publish modestly priced books that thoughtfully and substantively question narratives of history, culture and society. Translating a body of photography into a powerful book requires collaboration, and Mass Books exists to help photographers distill their vision and engage a broad audience with this dynamic medium.
